pv

select pen velocity

SYNOPSIS

pv [velocity]

DESCRIPTION

The pv command controls the drawing speed on the pen plotter. The quality of the lines on the pen plotter depends on the drawing speed and acceleration of the pen. You may sometimes want to draw plots quickly, at the expense of well-inked lines, or you may want to slow the pen to improve the quality of the lines.

With no parameters, pv prints the current pen velocity and prompts for a new value. Any positive values entered are passed directly to the plotter. A negative parameter selects the plotter's default value, which is likely to be the maximum velocity and acceleration available.

Different pen plotters models have different maximum pen velocities. The program indicates the velocity you select, even if it is greater than the maximum the plotter allows.

C-PLOT's default pen velocity is 10 cm/sec.

The maximum velocities available for a number of HP plotter models are shown below.
